Effects of Flash Zone
Temperature Upon Resid Production and Cut Point
Increasing the flash zone temperature also
has dramatic effects upon the resid production and cut point.
Increasing the flash zone temperature
decreases the resid production rate.
Increasing the flash zone temperature
increases the resid cut point.

These charts contain no surprises-
the higher the flash zone temperature, the less the resid
production. Fuels refiners trying to minimize resid production
typically maximize the flash zone temperature up to the
temperature limit at which excessive cracking and/or coking
occurs in the vacuum furnace.
